The first Viking ranges received certification in late 1986 and shipped in January 1987, creating the professional-grade home appliance segment that every premium manufacturer now competes in.
The line has broadened well beyond ranges — Viking today builds cooking, ventilation, kitchen clean-up and refrigeration, plus outdoor equipment, and its technologies include convection, induction and speed cooking. Middleby Corporation acquired Viking on 31 December 2012, and the brand remains headquartered in Greenwood.
What Pro-Style Actually Means for Repair
Professional-style appliances are built heavier than domestic equivalents — thicker steel, larger components, more robust hardware. That’s good for longevity and it changes the service picture: doors and hinges carry real weight, components are physically bigger to access, and the machines are generally worth repairing well past the point where a mass-market appliance would be written off.
