A cooktop is a simpler machine than a range, and the faults are usually one of three things: the element, the switch behind it, or the board underneath.
Element or the infinite switch. On radiant glass the element sits under the surface and comes out from below.
The switch, not the element. It's the fault most often misdiagnosed as a dead element.
Replaceable on most radiant models, and worth pricing before you replace the whole cooktop.
On gas, the spark module or the electrodes — sometimes just a burner cap sitting proud after a clean.
Often the pan, not the cooktop. We'll tell you which before quoting anything.
Control board or moisture under the glass. Common after a spill, and not always terminal.
Power supply, a tripped element, or the main board. The whole-cooktop symptom usually has a small cause.
Read us the code when you call — it often decides whether the cooktop has to come out of the counter.
A cooktop is the hob on its own, dropped into the counter with the oven elsewhere. Three types, and the difference is what sits under the surface.
Drop-in burners with removable grates. Igniters and burner caps are the common calls; gas line work goes to a licensed gasfitter.
Elements under ceramic glass, wired to an infinite switch behind each knob. One dead zone usually points at the switch.
Induction coils and a board beneath the glass. Fan and board faults show up as a cooktop that heats briefly and then stops.
We service all major cooktop brands sold in Canada, including:
